Unique lunch cave, beautiful grounds.

Family owned. 100% Temecula grapes. Owners are on site and engaged daily.

On the tasting menu, they offer Mourvedre as a stand alone varietal, instead of using it to blend. Nice choice for many who like an ultra light weight red, but I prefer Mourvedre in a GSM.

Years ago, the owners’ dog had diabetes. They now host Cause Fur Paws in honor of Petie. The fundraiser helps families financially, who have pets with diabetes. They also have a red table wine “For Pete’s Sake” which generates funds for their non-profit organization.

After tasting, you can stay for lunch, dining in Oak Mountain's cave in back, or on their patio out front.

Things I learned at this winery:

Zinfandel in the United States is genetically equivalent to Primitivo, which is grown in the heel of Italy. Both are clones of a Croatian grape called Crljenak.

Pinotage is a popular grape from South Africa. Pinotage isn’t a blend of Pinot Noir and Cinsault. It is a grafted vine.

Late harvest sugary wines are measured for sweetness in terms of brix using a refractometer. One degree brix is 1 gram of sucrose in 100 grams of solution. Oak Mountain’s late harvest wines clock in at 30 brix, vs. 24 brix for most other wines.
